To secure and protect your PC is a personal responsibility you must not take lightly; for in it is the lifeblood of everything – Information! Whether at home, school, office, or any business and organization you’re into, this responsibility must be put into action. Else, your money, investments, identity and personal information could be at risk!

Ways to Protect Your PC

Firewalls. A component of a network or computer system that is intended to block system access that are not authorized while allowing authorized interactions and communication. Firewalls are executed in either software or hardware, or integration of both.

For those already connected with the Internet through a router, there’s no need to install ‘all-in-one’ security software since your router now serves as hardware-based firewall to restrain bad guys, Internet worms, trojan horses and viruses from having access to your system.
As part of MS Windows Security Measures, as with the XP and Vista, built-in software firewalls are already integrated with the package to protect you from bad elements that causes system destruction.
Turn on your Windows XP firewall by clicking: Start button then click Control Panel then Security Center icon then click the Windows Firewall situated at the bottom of the window.
Read information about Firewalls and you may download free software firewall that will accomplish tasks to keep you protected.

Anti-virus. Essential software that is used to detect, remove and prevent malwares, computer viruses, worms and trojan horses. These programs also remove and prevent spyware, adware and other forms of malware.

Unlike Firewalls, Anti-viruses are not integrated with any version of Windows. But, no need to spend much to pay for anti-virus protection.
Search the Internet for information about anti-viruses and download the free version that has been proven to work efficiently and effectively, or even better than those paid ones – AVG, A’vast, Avira AntiVir, PC Tools AntiVirus, and many more.
Anti-phishing. As defined in the field of computer security, Phishing refers to the criminally fraudulent process of trying to obtain sensitive information – usernames, passwords, and account details such as in credit cards by pretending to be a trustworthy agent in an electronic transaction or communication.
Phishing is usually carried-out by instant messaging, emails and other communication means; masquerading to be coming from popular auction sites, social networking websites, online payment processors or IT administrators to entice unsuspicious public.
The Internet Explorer 7 of MS Windows XP (free downloadable upgrade) and MS Windows Vista (pre-installed) comes with built-in anti-phishing software. To enable this feature or to verify if this is already enabled: Start Internet Explorer then go to Tools, then Phishing Filter then Turn on automatic Phishing Filter (recommended).
Download and install to take advantage of free protection offered by Anti-virus companies – TrendMicro’s TrendProtect and OpenDNS.

Anti-spyware. A type of Malware that may be installed on computers to gather bits of user’s information at a time without the users’ awareness. Spywares are usually hidden from the user and are hard to detect and remove once infected since they’re secretly installed.

Spyware has become very common and hard to detect that it has almost substituted viruses. But this has been resolved with some Anti-spyware programs; providing protection at no cost – Windows Defender (MS Windows XP & Vista), SpywareBlaster (Built-in with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox).

All-In-One Security Software. If you prefer a piece of software that does it all, there are a variety of free versions to select from – CyberDefender and Blink Personal Edition (free for one year).

Though, this All-In-One Security Software works just fine, many technical people do not really recommended this but the choice is entirely yours.

Keep in mind that protecting your computer means protecting every thing – your wealth, investments, identity and life. And there are a variety of means and ways to do this. Search the Internet and read articles to help you make a wise decision; just be sure not to spend much when there are available options for being effectively and efficiently protected at minimal or no cost at all!

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, a technology that uses the Internet to make phone calls, has come a long way since its debut back around 1995. The quality and robustness of the technology has greatly improved over the past decade, especially in the area of hardware based VoIP. I remember back in the first half of the noughties, working for an Internet wholesale company, when VoIP became a real buzz-word among those in the Internet Service Provider industry. This was their chance to usurp Telstra’s domination of the voice market and take a piece of that lucrative pie. The impending ‘voice revolution’ was upon us and the imminent downfall of Telstra’s network monopoly was eagerly awaited by would-be competitors. The revolution was stalled by a market that failed to appreciate the significant savings and added value that VoIP could deliver. It was seen as too complicated, the technology not robust enough, and the incumbent telco still had line rental and call termination costs by the short and curlies. Although adoption of VoIP technology by Australian businesses is still only reached around the 17% penetration mark, there are some very good reasons to take a serious look at VoIP as an alternative to giving your money to those bad old telcos.

1. Dramatically reduce your call costs
Perhaps the most compelling reason for businesses to switch to a VoIP system is the massive savings to be had on phone bills. Tradition telephone infrastructure is expensive to maintain and is reflected in the call costs. Because VoIP technology sends voice across the Internet in the form of data, calls largely bypass the expensive PSTN copper voice telephone exchanges so that much of the termination cost is avoided. This is especially so for long distance and overseas calls.

Telephone line rental has until recently been a mandatory cost that could not be avoided unless you were happy with paying mobile rates for all your communications. New telecommunications rules now allow DSL Internet providers the ability to offer what is called “Naked DSL” which is an unbundled telephone line installation that is for data use only. This means that you no longer need to have a Telstra owned telephone line along with the associated line rental fee to have a broadband Internet connection. Combining Naked DSL with VoIP means businesses can run their cheaper voice calls over a dedicated, robust Internet connection without having to give any money to Telstra! I don’t know how you feel personally about Telstra but to many people this prospect gives them a tingle. In any case it is a victory for competition over network monopoly.

2. Portability
Another great benefit of using VoIP as your voice solution is that unlike the traditional telephone service, it is not tied down to a physical location. If you happen to move premises, you can take your VoIP numbers anywhere you can access the Internet. With the old office telephone infrastructure, moving the system to another location is a costly experience. With an office VoIP system, you can simply move the equipment to another location, plug it all in and you are good to go.

If you or your employees are working away from the office, you can still be available using the call forwarding feature at a much lower cost than if it was provided by a traditional telco. Better still, workers who travel and are wirelessly connected to the Internet either via notebook computer or mobile phone can now take their VoIP number with them to make and receive calls and save on mobile minutes.

3. Easy scalability as your business grows
When a business is looking to expand their telephone system to meet growth, often scaling up the telephone system is an expensive process. Fixed-line PBX’s, used traditionally to extend one or more telephone lines to create “virtual phone numbers” have limits to how many numbers or extensions you could have, depending on the equipment you use. The old PBX equipment was often proprietary technology, requiring expensive licensed technicians to deal with maintenance and upgrades.

With a VoIP system, such restrictions are a thing of the past. Unlimited phone numbers and extensions can be created within an office environment, even between remote offices, much more easily and therefore less expensively than its traditional counterpart. Also, in most cases the VoIP PBX equipment and the software that drives it is open source. This means that unlike proprietary equipment, there is no restriction on who can setup, configure and maintain your VoIP system and license fees are not being syphoned off to some big company with a monopoly on the hardware and software infrastructure.

4. Communication between office branches for FREE
If you have offices in more than one location, or you have employees that work from home, imagine how much money you would save on phone bills if calls between locations was free. A major cost saving feature with using VoIP is that calls between VoIP telephone numbers is free. This is because there is no call termination cost, which is the tariff that traditional telcos charge your provider to transfer your VoIP call to the “old world” landline telephone number at the other end. In other words, a VoIP to VoIP call completely bypasses the traditional copper telephone network and therefore avoids all costs that would otherwise be associated with it. Put simply, by using a VoIP service to communicate between your business locations, the call is treated as data and the cost savings are similar to how email has reduced the cost of text based communication.

5. Useful features and capabilities that conventional phone technology can’t offer
If your with one of the big incumbent telcos for your business telephone solution, you probably feel a bit gouged by them over all the extra charges they levy on you for additional features and functions. Extra charges for voice mail, caller id and other seemingly simple services are common if you are on a plan with the major telcos. Traditional voice technology does actually make these functions difficult for telcos to implement because all of these additional functions have to be implemented at your local telephone exchange. The alternative is to have these features set up and configured on an office PBX system, if it supports the features you want and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to get a licensed tech who is most likely the only person allowed to touch it.

VoIP is far more clever and can do much more. Because VoIP is data based, the technology is naturally more flexible to facilitate a vast array of features, mostly free, that would previously stack up on your traditional phone bill. VoIP software, being open source and non-proprietary, can offer much more than the traditional extras offered by telcos, such as IVR and other rather innovative ways to integrate software with voice. In fact, call centres have been at the forefront of VoIP integration with software to capture and interpret call stats, generally with a Customer Relationship Management package and call recording technology. Company call menus (you know, “please press 1 for sales…” etc etc) are more easily configured and reconfigured using VoIP rather than older alternative.

Whether you have a small or large business, AWD can provide reliable, robust and cost effective set up of a VoIP solution that suits your needs and can grow with your business without hassle. VoIP technology can help your business compete effectively without letting voice related overheads get out of hand. If you are interested in saving a significant amount on telephone bills for your enterprise, as well as stop giving your hard earned money to the telco dinosaurs, contact us today.

VoIP stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol” and is going to change the way you think about making long distance phone calls. Basically, VoIP technology turns analog audio signals (i.e. the sounds you hear when talking on your regular telephone) into a digital signal (which is then transmitted over the Internet.)

One of the interesting components about Unblock VoIP is that there’s not just one way to make a VoIP call. There are actually three ways to make a VoIP call:

1) VoIP via ATA: is the most commonly used VoIP method right now. Using the ATA (analog telephone adaptor), you connect your regular telephone to your computer or Internet connection. The ATA is an analog-to-digital converter and it takes the analog signal from your phone and converts it into digital data and transmits it over the Internet so you are able to make VoIP calls. This is how Vonage and AT&T’s CallVantage handle VoIP calls. The ATA is free with their services. And using an ATA for VoIP is so simple that anyone can do it. Open the box, plug the cable from your phone into the ATA instead of the wall socket, and you’re ready to begin making VoIP calls. Depending on your computer, where you live, and what type of Internet connection you have, you may need to also install VoIP software onto your computer, but this shouldn’t be too difficult for most people.

2) VoIP via IP Phones: VoIP phones look just like a standard telephone. They have a handset, cradles and buttons. But an VoIP phone uses an RJ-45 Ethernet connector instead of the standard RJ-11 phone connectors. VoIP phones connect directly to your router and all the hardware and software is already built inside to handle your VoIP calls. Look for Wi-Fi IP phones to be available in the near future, which will allow you to make VoIP calls from any Wi-Fi hotspot. This will allow you to take your VoIP phone with you when you travel, and stop in at any Internet café, hotel or other location where you can use your Wi-Fi laptop, and you can use VoIP technology to “phone home” from anyplace in the world.

3) VoIP via Computer-to-Computer: This is arguably the easiest way to use VoIP. There are no fees for long distance calls and there are several companies offering free or low-cost software right now for you to make use of VoIP technology. All you need is the software, a microphone, speakers, a sound card and a broadband or cable DSL Internet connection, and you can start using VoIP service right away. Except for your normal monthly ISP fee, there is no charge for any computer-to-computer VoIP call, no matter how far away they are. is one such VoIP service. Chances are, you’ve already been using the VoIP technology without even being aware of it, any time you’ve made a long distance telephone call recently. Many of the major phone companies are already using VoIP technology to reduce their own bandwidth. It’s a simple matter of routing thousands of phone calls through a circuit switch and into an IP gateway. Once received on the other side of the gateway, the VoIP calls are decompressed, reassembled and routed back to a local circuit switch.

A computer is not a cheap investment, nearly anyone will be able to tell you that. Protecting your computer from harm can mean many different things and you will want to find the best ways to do this. Spyware and other viruses can affect the performance of your computer by introducing new commands which will eat your computer from the inside. One of the strongest forms of computer security comes in removing and preventing these elements from taking over your computer. This is not the only type of computer security, however, as you will want to protect yourself while using your computer as well. Anti-glare functions can be crucial to making this happen.

Â

Glare itself is the light which will bounce off of your computer screen and hit you in the eyes. While a sleek, glossy appearance of the monitor can be incredibly attractive at first, you will soon come to realize that it’s quite hard on the eyes. Finding an anti-glare function for your computer can help you make sure that you won’t get eye strain from using your computer too much and potentially cause yourself damage. When you turn to ViewGuard, however, you will not only be able to protect your eyes, but you will get a strong level of computer security as well.

Â

One of these screens works as a privacy shield that darkens the screen of the computer to everyone but the person sitting directly in front of the monitor. You will be able to stop people from watching what you are working on, which could help you to keep your work confidential. This can give you the confidence to do what you need to without worrying about negative outside influences. This computer security accessory will work with anti-glare as well, however, which should make it easier for you to use your computer without negative drawbacks to your health.

Â

You will no longer need to worry about getting sickening headaches from exposure to too much glare.

Â

This anti-glare shield will work as another form of computer security, which gives it another added benefit. It will help to protect your monitor from both fingerprints and scratches, which can destroy the integrity of the images you are looking at. It will be harder for you to use your computer when it is smudged and this filter can remove that presence. Scratching can also damage your computer monitor, especially on a laptop. This screen, however, can help protect you from damaging your delicate instrument in these very key ways which makes a privacy screen into a very smart investment.

Â

Voice over IP (VoIP) software is used to manage phone voice discussions across the Internet. There are numerous free VOIP Software applications ready for use on the web for download. VOIP Software is in demand because VOIP phone service is often cheaper than conventional phone service, and is becoming further sought-after for both business and personal calls.

7 powerful benefits of a VoIP Software Solution:

Â

1. Ease of Use – Internet telephony provides voice mail and other telephone services, and installation of simple VoIP software is easy for anyone with an iota of ability. Industry insiders forecast that, in time, Internet phone technologies and services will supersede much of the workload at this time handled by plain old telephone service.

Making phone calls over the Internet isn’t just for the technical knowledgeable anymore. Employing VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) is easier than ever before, with a number of VoIP providers out there that can help considerably decrease the cost of your current phone bill.

 2. Saving Money -The greatest benefit of VoIP over the typical telephone service is the cost. It is far less expensive to furnish a customer with Internet Phone Service than it is to furnish them with regular phone service. This means the client receives better prices also.

3. Portability – You don’t necessarily need a VOIP phone to obtain portability. Some providers of computer based VOIP services offer a Web interface. This interface allows clients to log in and place calls from anywhere in the world, so long as a broadband Internet connection is available.

4. One Stop Solution – VoIP Internet phone service is being favored amongst the latest generation users as it furnishes a one stop phone solution for making long distance as well as international calls at lesser fees.

The reason why we haven’t all been utilizing a VoIP solution to make calls up to the present moment is that it requires a broadband Internet connection, and broadband has only existed widely ready for use to home and business users for a somewhat short time. However, with broadband becoming constantly more common, VoIP solutions have started to take off in a huge way.

5. Functionality – VoIP phone usefulness can also be carried out with a PC or laptop if you have the Softphone software and a headset or microphone and speakers.

To use your regular analog or cordless phone, you’ll need an Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA). Plug your phone into the ATA and the other end into your high speed broadband or DSL modem.

Your VoIP service provider or broadband phone company should be able to furnish you with one of these. Apart from that, online stores sell many popular brand names VoIP Phones.

6. Business Networking- Selecting a business VoIP phone service may be unavoidable, however selecting an appropriate service provider will allow the company to discover features that will convey immediate benefits, as well as harvesting the cost savings and scalability a VoIP service essentially offers.

Business VoIP software offers a huge collection of applications. Obtain your faxes and voicemail through your email box or web browser. Conference calling, Caller ID, Paging equipment, Handsets, Call forwarding, no problem on a business trip – take your IP phone or Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) with you and your number follows you, or configure your phone to call-forward.

7. Business Productivity – The majority of the business owners are now consciously accepting business VoIP phone service for better business productivity. Many service providers offer structured and affordable VoIP service plans together with PBX systems.

VoIP phone service breakthroughs are advanced with many PBX functions such as auto attendant and voicemail that naturally boosts any business productivity.

The auto attendant facility provides great assistance in administering all the incoming calls. This feature expedites receiving numerous calls simultaneously. Callers are now welcomed with a recorded greeting. If a caller is left unattended, the caller will be provided with a voicemail option by which they may leave messages in the voicemail box.

The choice of the virtual receptionist assists accompanying calls is provided from the establishment of the service provider. Therefore, your calls are answered in spite of off-hours and weekends in need of keeping live receptionists at your office. As a result, the advantage of a business VoIP phone service redeems your capital and increases the productivity of your business.

Finally, VoIP Software Solutions are easy to use, manage, and expand into. Features for advanced small business VoIP technology save time and money, providing an efficient choice for all.
