Are you looking for some inside information on computer security for business? Here’s an up-to-date report from computer security for business experts who should know.

Many businesses in the world today operate on networked systems that allow shared access of much information in order to streamline various processes. This is a wise decision on behalf of business owners as it saves a lot of time (and time is money in the world of business) that employees would otherwise spend waiting for various files to download onto their individual computer systems. The problem is that this also presents a logistical security nightmare for many reasons.

The first reason that often comes to mind is a computer virus. Once one computer in the network is infected it’s a very slow business day, week, or month all around and in some cases an extremely expensive problem to fix. Many businesses have established policies in order to minimize these risks. If your business does not have a security protocol in place for not only preventing viruses but also handling the aftermath of viruses, it is time to talk with your IT department or contact an IT specialist from outside the company in order to establish protocols and procedures to combat the risks that viruses pose to productivity and the valuable information held within your companies computer systems.

Regular back ups of the computer systems is another issue that many people do not consider when it comes to the security of computers for their businesses. However, stuff happens. Hard drives crash and servers die horrific yet spectacular deaths. The unfortunate truth is that these things never happen at opportune times (because there is never a good time for the computers of any business to go down). The lag time however can be greatly reduced if a business creates daily backups of all computer systems. This can be done in a matter of minutes each day and can save months of work trying to retrieve the information should the unthinkable happen. It is well worth the costs and time involved to back up your computers each and every day as part of your company’s security routine.

See how much you can learn about computer security for business when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

Visitors. Most businesses have venders and clients in and out all the time. Many of these visitors have laptop computers and need Internet access. Rather than allowing these visitors computers to have access to the information that your business allows to employees it is best to have an external Internet source for visiting computers that is completely separate from the network shared by employees. While it would be wonderful if we lived in a world in which we could trust visitors but the truth is we can’t. Not only are visitors not above sabotaging the competition they are also not above trying to steal your secrets as well as the new products that are in the pipelines. For this reason it is wise to pay the price for having an internal network and an external network for your business.

Remote access. This is something that many companies offer employees as a way of allowing them to work from home on occasion during family emergencies and even after hours. Many employees see this is a perk and more and more businesses are allowing this sort of access. The problem is that not all employees are as security conscious, as they should be. Discuss with the IT experts in your company or those you consult how to minimize the risks involved in providing this ‘perk’ to employees. There are ways that can be incorporated that limit the access to information that individual employees have while working remotely that still allow them to access the files that are relevant to their specific tasks and responsibilities with a password or code. Find out what will suit the security needs of your company best and implement that system.

The information age poses new risks for businesses at every turn in order to make up for the added conveniences. Be sure that your business takes the necessary steps to insure maximum security when it comes to the computers that make life so much easier.

Is there really any information about computer security for business that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

Small businesses, home-based businesses, and self-employed individuals have been turning to internet telephone service (also called broadband phone or VOIP) in droves. What is the attraction? As a self-employed, telecommuting, small-business-owning freelance writer, I can provide some insight.

I switched my business to internet phones early in 2005. Despite a few hiccups, I’m not going back to landlines. Internet phone service has too many advantages, which I’ll describe for you. I also have some tips for avoiding possible rough patches.

VOIP Internet Phone Small Business and SOHO Advantages

VOIP Advantage No. 1: Look bigger.

If your small business has to seem large, a virtual PBX with a dial-by-name directory might help. These systems cost thousands to install. But many VOIP companies let you rent this service for less than a hundred dollars a month.

Give each member of your team their own outside line. With most VOIP companies, each line costs around $10.

Get one or more 1-800 numbers at around $10/month.

VOIP Advantage No 2. Freedom of movement.

Freedom to travel. When I went to Sacramento to visit a friend, I ended up extending my stay to a whole month. I couldn’t have done that without regular phone access. With VOIP, my Massachusetts number follows me wherever I go. Â

Tropical adventures. I regularly work with a virtual assistant company that takes phone calls on their Quebec phone number everyday. That wouldn’t be so strange except they’re in the Philippines. They’re using the same small business VOIP phone service sold right here in North America. True, VOIP companies don’t generally guarantee their services will work outside the country of purchase. But the internet is the internet, whether in Fargo or the South Pacific. With the growth of broadband to virtually every non-pariah nation on earth, your second office really could be in a tropical paradise–or year-round ski resort. Isn’t that the freedom you hoped being your own boss would bring?

Telecommuting. Feel a cold coming? Work from home! With VOIP, even the receptionist may be able to telecommute!

Voicemail by email. You don’t have to be by the phone to get voicemail. This is the perfect service for busy people and email addicts. Bonus: the message (in a file similar those used on MP3 players) can be stored indefinitely.

Internet Phone Advantage 3. Cost

Make lots of calls? Many VOIP providers’ unlimited-calling plans cost just $20 to $80 a month.

Features such as call waiting, caller ID, hold, call forwarding, and multiple ring-to numbers are usually costly extras with landline service. With most VOIP services, those are built-in features.

SOHO VOIP: Tips for Making it Work for Your Business

SOHO VOIP Tip 1. Test internet phoning out before committing.

Yes, some VOIP connections are so scratchy and patchy they sound like cell phones. That’s usually because of a problem in the internet connection. Such problems may not be apparent in ordinary web browsing and file downloading. Go with a service that has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Try VOIP out where you live and work. Make sure to try inbound and outbound calls.

Small Business Internet Phone Tip 2. Phoning from a laptop.

With VOIP telephones, you don’t need a computer. But you can use your computer as a phone. A piece of software called a “softphone” uses your computer’s speakers and microphone. If your laptop is running too many programs at once, calls will deteriorate. Higher-end laptops shouldn’t have this problem.

SOHO Internet Phones Tip 3. Go with an established VOIP company.

You don’t want to lose your telephone service and possibly your number. Yet only a few VOIP companies have roots before 2000. Choose a service with deep enough roots to survive a VOIP industry shake-out.

Small Biz Internet Phoning Tip 4. Choose a provider carefully before putting the number on your business cards.

Switching VOIP companies is at least as much of a pain as switching landline phone companies. In fact, there is typically no outward number-portability. You can bring a number in, but good luck taking it with you. Researching in early 2005, I found no nationwide VOIP services officially offering outward number portability.

Choose a VOIP provider with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Test the service out thoroughly. One thing is likely: you may want to switch VOIP providers, but you won’t want to go back to landline.

Spectacular gains in productivity and significant savings in terms of costs are motivating many businesses to avail VoIP services and solutions. The traditional voice system is increasingly giving way to VoIP systems and IP based solutions. The importance of VoIP resellers can be understood in this context.

VoIP resellers are an important link in the VoIP reseller services value chain. The VoIP resellers ensure that the VoIP services reach end-users in more instances than one. They offer call termination services to users in different parts of the world. The VoIP reseller services make the most of the existing VoIP reseller business opportunities that are replete in this very “niche” market segment.

A few words on the profile of a VoIP reseller. A business having an established customer base in a particular geographical area could become a VoIP reseller. A technical knowledge about the VoIP domain is not required. Neither does a potential reseller need to make a large investment in terms of money or time. Resellers could make the most of VoIP reseller programs, wherein complete infrastructure to terminate calls are provided for. The initial capital requirements are done away with as all the equipment and infrastructure are delivered by the service providers.

In VoIP reseller services, telephony lines could be integrated with VoIP call termination services at industry leading costs. The savings so accrued could be passed over to end users through guaranteeing them a reduced tariff structure. Because of the reseller VoIP services, VoIP solutions are increasingly becoming extremely popular and user-friendly the world over.

Potential customers for VoIP resellers could be small and middle level businesses that are committed to increasing their organizational productivity. As a matter of fact, there is no dearth of business opportunities in VoIP reseller services. Businesses from different domains are joining in the band wagon and the competition is expected to become more intense in the near future.

2010 is a  data recovery year and we made a research about the new data recovery busienss and found 40% new who bought data recovery toolsare not exisiting data recovery companiesbut some IT companies, Computer forensic services providers, Computer labs even some Universities, training institutes and personals.

The following are some suggestions to start data recovery business wisely. To enter a new field, the first thing is to learn about this field. When you are considering to start a data recovery business, you need to know Why Should I join in it, How to join it and How to develop it.

Why should I start data recovery business?

In this times of information, More and more people are keeping their data not only by some papers, but most often by computers, flash memories and other forms of storage medias. At the same time, the manufacturers are producing the related products at a amazing speed, such products are often upgraded frequently and these manufacturers are making a nice profit and creating a great potential market for data recovery business.
Quality of the products, longevity of the products, human operation errors and damage, accident damage and natual disaster damages, etc, all of them are mothers of data recovery business.

Currently, most data recovery services are not affordable and reasonable to many end users, especially if your patient medias have some physical damages like heads, motor, platter damage, or if your patient medias have firmware problems, etc, such cases usually cost several hundred or thousand dollars and even more. As the competition in data recovery business is growing and the price recently in some countries are improving and goes down a little!
And in most of Eastern European countries, Asian countries, African Countries and South American countries, data recovery business are still at the baby stage with great prospect.

Besides above, the financial crisis has a severe damage to many traditional industries and a large amount of people get unemployeed. WHat to do to make a living? Find another job or start a new business? Be fired again or be your own boss?

How to Start data recovery Business?

If you want to be your own boss and start a data recovery business, we have the following situations:

If you have a tight budget, you can make use of some free data recovery software and purchase some good data recovery software, you can find some qualified ones with Ontrack data recovery and Stellar information, these two are the world famous ones with their data recovery software. As far as we know, if you buy Salvation data tools , you can attend their comprehensive data recovery training for free! This is good chance and worth your try!

After your business is growing bigger, you can try to set up new offices or find some partners in other cities and even in other countries with potential bigger data recovery market, Ontrack, Stellar, SalvationDATA, ACE, IBAS, etc, most of these famous companies are doing so. You can also later provide data recovery training to your customers and you can even set up a training institute for a comprehensive IT training! Anyway, God knows how data recovery will go exactly in future and all of us in this field need to be well prepared!

Â

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, a technology that uses the Internet to make phone calls, has come a long way since its debut back around 1995. The quality and robustness of the technology has greatly improved over the past decade, especially in the area of hardware based VoIP. I remember back in the first half of the noughties, working for an Internet wholesale company, when VoIP became a real buzz-word among those in the Internet Service Provider industry. This was their chance to usurp Telstra’s domination of the voice market and take a piece of that lucrative pie. The impending ‘voice revolution’ was upon us and the imminent downfall of Telstra’s network monopoly was eagerly awaited by would-be competitors. The revolution was stalled by a market that failed to appreciate the significant savings and added value that VoIP could deliver. It was seen as too complicated, the technology not robust enough, and the incumbent telco still had line rental and call termination costs by the short and curlies. Although adoption of VoIP technology by Australian businesses is still only reached around the 17% penetration mark, there are some very good reasons to take a serious look at VoIP as an alternative to giving your money to those bad old telcos.

1. Dramatically reduce your call costs
Perhaps the most compelling reason for businesses to switch to a VoIP system is the massive savings to be had on phone bills. Tradition telephone infrastructure is expensive to maintain and is reflected in the call costs. Because VoIP technology sends voice across the Internet in the form of data, calls largely bypass the expensive PSTN copper voice telephone exchanges so that much of the termination cost is avoided. This is especially so for long distance and overseas calls.

Telephone line rental has until recently been a mandatory cost that could not be avoided unless you were happy with paying mobile rates for all your communications. New telecommunications rules now allow DSL Internet providers the ability to offer what is called “Naked DSL” which is an unbundled telephone line installation that is for data use only. This means that you no longer need to have a Telstra owned telephone line along with the associated line rental fee to have a broadband Internet connection. Combining Naked DSL with VoIP means businesses can run their cheaper voice calls over a dedicated, robust Internet connection without having to give any money to Telstra! I don’t know how you feel personally about Telstra but to many people this prospect gives them a tingle. In any case it is a victory for competition over network monopoly.

2. Portability
Another great benefit of using VoIP as your voice solution is that unlike the traditional telephone service, it is not tied down to a physical location. If you happen to move premises, you can take your VoIP numbers anywhere you can access the Internet. With the old office telephone infrastructure, moving the system to another location is a costly experience. With an office VoIP system, you can simply move the equipment to another location, plug it all in and you are good to go.

If you or your employees are working away from the office, you can still be available using the call forwarding feature at a much lower cost than if it was provided by a traditional telco. Better still, workers who travel and are wirelessly connected to the Internet either via notebook computer or mobile phone can now take their VoIP number with them to make and receive calls and save on mobile minutes.

3. Easy scalability as your business grows
When a business is looking to expand their telephone system to meet growth, often scaling up the telephone system is an expensive process. Fixed-line PBX’s, used traditionally to extend one or more telephone lines to create “virtual phone numbers” have limits to how many numbers or extensions you could have, depending on the equipment you use. The old PBX equipment was often proprietary technology, requiring expensive licensed technicians to deal with maintenance and upgrades.

With a VoIP system, such restrictions are a thing of the past. Unlimited phone numbers and extensions can be created within an office environment, even between remote offices, much more easily and therefore less expensively than its traditional counterpart. Also, in most cases the VoIP PBX equipment and the software that drives it is open source. This means that unlike proprietary equipment, there is no restriction on who can setup, configure and maintain your VoIP system and license fees are not being syphoned off to some big company with a monopoly on the hardware and software infrastructure.

4. Communication between office branches for FREE
If you have offices in more than one location, or you have employees that work from home, imagine how much money you would save on phone bills if calls between locations was free. A major cost saving feature with using VoIP is that calls between VoIP telephone numbers is free. This is because there is no call termination cost, which is the tariff that traditional telcos charge your provider to transfer your VoIP call to the “old world” landline telephone number at the other end. In other words, a VoIP to VoIP call completely bypasses the traditional copper telephone network and therefore avoids all costs that would otherwise be associated with it. Put simply, by using a VoIP service to communicate between your business locations, the call is treated as data and the cost savings are similar to how email has reduced the cost of text based communication.

5. Useful features and capabilities that conventional phone technology can’t offer
If your with one of the big incumbent telcos for your business telephone solution, you probably feel a bit gouged by them over all the extra charges they levy on you for additional features and functions. Extra charges for voice mail, caller id and other seemingly simple services are common if you are on a plan with the major telcos. Traditional voice technology does actually make these functions difficult for telcos to implement because all of these additional functions have to be implemented at your local telephone exchange. The alternative is to have these features set up and configured on an office PBX system, if it supports the features you want and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to get a licensed tech who is most likely the only person allowed to touch it.

VoIP is far more clever and can do much more. Because VoIP is data based, the technology is naturally more flexible to facilitate a vast array of features, mostly free, that would previously stack up on your traditional phone bill. VoIP software, being open source and non-proprietary, can offer much more than the traditional extras offered by telcos, such as IVR and other rather innovative ways to integrate software with voice. In fact, call centres have been at the forefront of VoIP integration with software to capture and interpret call stats, generally with a Customer Relationship Management package and call recording technology. Company call menus (you know, “please press 1 for sales…” etc etc) are more easily configured and reconfigured using VoIP rather than older alternative.

Whether you have a small or large business, AWD can provide reliable, robust and cost effective set up of a VoIP solution that suits your needs and can grow with your business without hassle. VoIP technology can help your business compete effectively without letting voice related overheads get out of hand. If you are interested in saving a significant amount on telephone bills for your enterprise, as well as stop giving your hard earned money to the telco dinosaurs, contact us today.

Wholesale Telephony

Â

Wholesale Telephony is a business where a Wholesale telephone service provider derives income and profit from customers who place or receive international calls via VoIP network at low rates. Wholesale VoIP providers offer different kinds of services which include: selling/renting of switching equipment, PC2phone, device2Phone and other similar services, calling cards, direct VoIP termination, and callback solutions. Popular applications like BillBery Billing and Management Solution from Jerasoft Development and PortaBilling are considered to be the best solution for the online VoIP billing systems.

Â

Retail Telephony

Â

Using VoIP protocols in retail VoIP business is a good way to boost your business, and be in a competitive position with both quality and costs reduction. VoIP technologies demonstrate powerful technological changes, offer innovative services and updates without incurring costly expenses. New VoIP applications are constantly being developed together with Internet evolution, because originally VoIP protocol networks were Internet based.
There are several benefits your business can benefit from with VoIP. First of all, VoIP telephony has better rates for retail services providers and for multinational traditional telephone companies, so both of them can easily optimize their communications costs. Although VoIP market has strong competition between VoIP billing providers and traditional telecom providers, VoIP providers charge considerably less than traditional landlines, because they don’t have to maintain an old and expensive network.Â

PSTN Termination

Â

VoIP Termination allows providers to establish reliable and cost-effective connection between XO IP networks and transmit IP-originated calls to public switched telephone network (PSTN). Also it allows VoIP providers to expand their range of services and make international calls at reasonable prices.

Several main features of VoIP Termination include:

* Stable connection between IP-network and PSTN for termination of long distance calls;
* Inbound and outbound termination services;
* SIP-protocol and TDM (Time Division Multiplex) connection;
* Reliable voice transmission trough XO IP and Sonus infrastructure;
* NP NXX billing structure offers low prices for LATA / OCN models

Â

Switch Partitioning

Â

This service allows wholesale VoIP-providers and resellers to rent a switch, which is originally owned by other companies. Clients of the service get a part of the switch and use it for their purposes.
A key advantage to renting a switch partition is that you can use one of the best switch equipments on the market and pay only a small monthly fee. Wholesaler VoIP providers and resellers can use the switch without any capital investment. If you rent a switch, you can start profiting from the resale immediately.

Calling Cards

Â

A Calling Card is a telecommunication card, which is used to pay for telephone voice services. Calling cards can be purchased directly from a Telecom company or its reseller.
Calling Cards can be pre-paid or post-paid. Prepaid cards have to be purchased before placing a call, but post-paid cards allow you to pay your bills later.

Calling cards can be purchased over the internet using a traditional credit card, in call centers and internet cafes. Calling Cards have several benefits. It offers the lowest rates for international calls. You can use international calling cards from anywhere in the world. Calling cards are portable and it’s easy to take them with you when you travel both domestically and internationally. Using a calling card, calls can be placed from any phone, eliminating the need for pay phone coins and if you are borrowing someone else’s phone, you incur the cost.

Â

Call Shops

VoIP Callshop, known as Public Call Offices (PCOs), is widely used in VoIP technology. VoIP Callshop is a true alternative to traditional call offices, which is spread all over the world. This business model offers a variety of services and solutions to both existing/potential VoIP Callshop businesses and Internet cafe owners.

VoIP Callshop software includes remotely configured VoIP-gateway, which terminates calls via the VoIP providers at low rates.

Many businesses are now migrating towards VoIP networks because they recognize the significant value that a VoIP phone service offers. However, different businesses measure the value offered in different terms. Some see it in the cost savings and the advantages that a converged network has to offer. For others, the true value lies not just in cheap VoIP but more in the way it changes business productivity.

Any company that is planning on integrating VoIP phone service must first clearly understand the true value it offers, over the long run before making business critical decisions.

Cost Savings with Cheap VoIP

The most well known reason for adopting VoIP networks has been the potential to save costs both in long-distance and international calls as well as in certain regulatory costs and most certainly in toll costs. However, a firm has to carry out a more comprehensive analysis to see whether these cost savings can be realized in reality, especially for small and medium businesses. The reason being that in order to achieve true cost savings, certain economies of scale have to be in place. Also, the VoIP phone service provider must be able to provide the kind of technical set-up that makes it possible to have least-cost routing. Many large enterprises operate full-fledged call centers and may have the kind of economies of scale to feel the reduction in costs that a cheap VoIP may bring about. Even here though, the call volumes have to be fairly large to truly feel the effect of cost saving from cheap VoIP. Many therefore believe that cost savings is just a secondary advantage of the VoIP phone service while its true value lies elsewhere.

Unified Communications with VoIP

One of the main areas where a VoIP phone service helps tremendously is in management of employees. It is very easy to add a new employee to the system by just giving them handsets that connect to the IP stack either through a port or a Wi-Fi network. This can easily be carried out by an in-house staff member and does not require a specially trained third-party to step in. If the employee is moved, all he has to do is to move the handset to the new location and connect it to the network and the same number is up and running.

In VoIP networks, there is a general simplification in infrastructure, with converged networks carrying both voice and data. This allows a single, smaller set of trained personnel to take care of the networks.

The unified communications feature that a VOIP phone service offers forms a huge part of the value that it offers. It is possible to integrate voice with other business communications, delivering voicemail and faxes to an employee inbox.

Selecting or unselecting of features becomes very simple with a VoIP network. For example, it is very easy to set up call forwarding to cellphones or add voice recording in a VoIP system.

Other than cheap VoIP reliability of service as well as voice quality are areas of concern for large enterprises as well as small and medium businesses.

Thus each organization has to carefully understand the real benefits of a VoIP phone service and then prepare the business to derive the real value from a VoIP implementation.

Resource Box: The real value of a Business VoIP Solution is the cost savings. However there are many other benefits of a Business VoIP System that may not be so obvious but are none the less just as valuable as saving money.

Contemporary business communication services are reaping big rewards from using VoIP phone systems. Professional VoIP providers worldwide are helping to create improved business services through the use of these phone systems. A PBX phone replacement system enables many features and benefits which have made business communication an asset, instead of simply a necessity. The telephony functionality has enabled improved business services to race ahead in their capabilities as time, money and effort are saved and capitalised on.

Hosted VoIP works by using a broadband internet connection. Through this fast connection, internet protocol is created (IP). The internet telephone systems create business communication services which are efficient and very fast. However, an IP connection offers far more features and benefits than normal PSTN lines.

Business communication services are converting more frequently to VoIP services by the day. PBX systems are becoming unnecessary as VoIP services are the favourite of businesses globally. Companies remaining on a PSTN and PBX supported line are literally falling behind in providing adequate services for their clients as they cannot deliver at their potential best. Old technology is restricting their functioning capabilities.

How hosted VoIP works
VoIP business communication services allow subscribers to control their phone systems over the internet through application servers provided by a hosted VoIP service provider. When making a call, voice signals are converted into data packets and sent via a hosted VoIP platform to the PSTN line or VoIP terminal to which the call is being made. When the voice data arrives at the required destination, the system converts the data packets back into voice signals.

The features
A VoIP system can have many branches. This means that the system can have many extensions and lines, carrying usability further. This allows companies to build large communication networks without expensive line rental, as VoIP is run through the internet and over a centralised platform. Receptionists can manage multiple calls through this centralised system if required.

VoIP subscribers are able to exercise much greater control over their phone systems than previously. System controls are run over the internet and allow subscribers to customise their requirements in real time. Training is generally not an issue as the user-friendly features are very easy to navigate. The phone systems are able to follow a user when moving locations through the use of softphones: software functioning as a telephone handset on their computer which does not need to be limited to one location. Calls are also very manageable. A subscriber will be able to choose when, where and from whom they receive calls.

The controls on a VoIP interface can be configured by any user and do not require technicians or specialists. Call-outs are not required and professional VoIP providers will offer a free 24 hour help-line, 365 days per year with qualified and experienced technicians to help with any problems experienced. Companies wishing to manage the controls and user features of a hosted VoIP system can use a tool for managing each branch of a system, usually overseen by IT managers. In addition, detailed billing is offered allowing businesses even greater control and awareness surrounding their subscription.

Voicemail and faxes are easily manageable with hosted VoIP. Voicemails can be listened to through an internet connection or through a normal PSTN phone or converted to emails and sent to an inbox to be listened to when convenient. Similarly, fax messages are converted into data and also sent to the subscriber’s inbox, where the data can be read as well as forwarded on.

The benefits
These features have enabled VoIP systems to become the most successful business communication systems. There are many benefits to using hosted VoIP, especially to users needing superior business communication services.

A business can cut costs drastically by using professional VoIP providers for their communication needs. Calls between VoIP sites are free. Call rates to PSTN lines and cell phones are reduced to far below regular call fees and line rentals are charged at a reduced rate. Because a VoIP subscription is inclusive of services, there are no support fees, saving large sums of money normally spent on call out fees.

Because VoIP lines are flexible and easily managed, businesses can add and subtract extensions at will and configure them in real time without needing support staff. Sites can be moved from one location to another and are not restricted by fixed lines. This enables employees to stay in contact from remote locations across the globe when on business trips or working from home.

SIP Trunking Solutions
Many businesses are heavily reliant on their PBX systems and the switch to VoIP may seem a possible liability to them. The option of a SIP Trunking solution is available to those looking to gain the features and benefits of VoIP services, yet retain the use of their PBX. A SIP Trunking solution works with a PBX which a hosted VoIP line is passed through, giving a business all the benefits of hosted VoIP services yet retaining the use of their original PBX system. This option is perfect as a slow introduction to the benefits of VoIP and necessary features to benefit a business.

Business communication services have certainly evolved into a popular communication service with far greater capabilities than PSTN lines and PBX systems. Through reduced costs, increased functionality and greater control, these improved business services have a far greater ability to offer clients the best service they can give. Communication is a primary factor behind business success, and with VoIP services, companies across the globe have started to experience the true potential of their businesses.

Business VoIP services are already being hailed as the rightful successors to the traditional phone services. Many large enterprises have already integrated VoIP into their networks and with more sophisticated, affordable VoIP solutions in the market, small and medium businesses too are planning to start using business VoIP phones. This is probably the best time for any organization to take a look at the costs and benefits of business VoIP service and determine if it is right for them.

All that’s good with a business VoIP phone….

The most well-known and compelling reason for most businesses to consider VoIP is cost savings. A business VoIP service saves costs for a company on local calls and long-distance calls, which include both domestic and international calls. In particular if the company has many branches, within the country or overseas, then it makes a lot of business sense to go in for a VoIP solution as calls to and from the same provider are often free – similar to cell phone plans.

Other than cost-savings, business VoIP service offers many sophisticated value-added services which make it attractive. For example, a business VoIP phone service does not depend on the location. Whether you are calling an employee in an office a few thousand miles away or a local client, with a business VoIP phone, no extra cables are needed which means there are no extra costs. Also, you can carry your business VoIP phone number with you when you travel. No wonder it is called a virtual number! Where a Wi-Fi network is available, you could log into it and use your business VoIP service to start making and receiving phone calls. The same facility could be extended to mobile phones, which could use the VoIP network to make calls instead of standard mobile operators.

The biggest advantage of business VoIP service over traditional phone services is the complete integrated communications solution that it offers. With a business VoIP phone, it is possible to – make cheap domestic and international voice calls; take advantage of both audio and video conferencing; have features like call forwarding and call waiting; have voice messages and fax messages sent to your email address – and much more.

What’s not so good with a business VoIP phone…

While a business may benefit considerably with the cost-savings and additional features that a business VoIP phone service offers, there are certain cost factors, which need to be taken into account.

A business VoIP service is clearly dependent on power supply, implying that if there is no power, you will not be able to make or receive phone calls. This would mean you need a UPS to keep the business VoIP phone active during power outages and you would need a back-up PSTN line, just in case of emergencies.

Quality of voice in a business VoIP service had been an issue for some time, with complaints of echoes and jitters, etc. However, with VoIP solutions becoming more stable and mainstream now, you could get fairly good quality voice even on your business VoIP phone.

A converged network carrying both voice and data could raise issues of insufficient bandwidth, especially for small and medium business who typically have only one broadband line.

For any business, moving to a business VoIP phone service may be inevitable, but choosing a proper service provider will allow the company to seek features that will bring it immediate benefits, leaving a more comprehensive implementation for later.

Resource Box: Business VoIP can save a company thousands of dollars a year, some report savings of up to 80%. For smaller businesses a look at the benefits of a Business VoIP solution helps to see the advantages this new technology enables.
